The volume is dedicated to Callistratus, an active jurist in the middle of the Severian age. As with his origins, many significant doubts remain about his career, and the timing of the composition of his works. What emerges instead, from the analysis of his writings, in addition to his own commitment as a legal technician, dedicated in particular to the study of procedural forms and administrative structures, is the possession of an almost humanistic literary education, whose fields of interest are philosophy and ethics in particular. The book collects the complete translated and commented works of the jurist; De Cognitionibus, in many ways his most significant work, the Institutiones, Ad Edictum Monitorium, Quaestiones, and De Iure Fisci et Populi.
